I bought this camera after already having a canon from about the same class. My expectations weren't too high, but I knew I wanted something good. I was dead wrong in thinking that it was a typical point and shoot camera.
1st off, the lens is absolutely amazing. It has a very high quality

After reading all the reviews, I went straight to this for my Streetpilot c580and I'm very happy. I was a little timid about really snapping it in, cuz you have to really PUSH it in, but it pops in and out, and is quite secure, whether on the dash or seat next to me. I'm not timid about turning corn

Product Description:

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal horrifying event of their lives.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/THRILLERS UPC: 097363520641 Manufacturer No: 352064
One of the first things a viewer notices about Cloverfield is that it doesn't play by ordinary storytelling rules, making this intriguing horror film as much a novelty as an event. Told from the vertiginous point-of-view of a camcorder-wielding group of friends, Cloverfield begins like a primetime television soap opera about young Manhattanites coping with changes in their personal lives. Rob (Michael Stahl-David) is leaving New York to take an executive job at a company in Japan. At his goodbye party in a crowded loft, Rob's brother Jason (Mike Vogel) hands a camcorder to best friend Hud (T.J. Miller), who proceeds to tape the proceedings over old footage of Rob's ex-girlfriend, Beth (Odette Yustman)--images shot during happy times in that now-defunct relationship. Naturally, Beth shows up at the party with a new beau, bumming Rob out completely. Just before one's eyes glaze over from all this heartbreaking stuff (captured by Hud, who's something of a doofus, in laughably shaky camerawork), the unexpected happens: New York is suddenly under attack from a Godzilla-like monster stomping through midtown and destroying everything and everybody in sight. Rob and company hit the streets, but rather than run with other evacuees, they head toward the center of the storm so that Rob can rescue an injured Beth. There are casualties along the way, but the journey into fear is fascinating and immediate if emotionally remote--a consequence of seeing these proceedings through the singular, subjective perspective of a camcorder and of a story that intentionally leaves major questions unanswered: Who or what is this monster? Where did it come from? The lack of a backstory, and spare views of the marauding creature, are clever ways by producer J.J. Abrams and director Matt Reeves to keep an audience focused exclusively on what's on the screen. But it also makes Cloverfield curiously uninvolving. Ultimately, Cloverfield, with its spectacular effects brilliantly woven into a home-video look, is a celebration of infinite possibilities in this age of accessible, digital media. --Tom Keogh

Don't Be Such a Sissy!
10/12/2008
CloverfieldPeople said the same thing about "The Blair Witch Project"; that is, the hand held camera made them nauseated. Get over yourself. It is an effective film technique that is used to highten the feeling of panic and escalate the manisfestation of fear in the film. I liked "Cloverfield". I thought the hand held camera was used to good advantage to help build the emotion and move the story along. It is appropriate to the characters running in the streets from a gigantic monster. It helps heighten our own fear and is appropriate to the situation. It certainly would not have been the same movie without it.

THIS AINT NO PARADE
10/11/2008
When an unkown creature suddenly attacks Manhatten,a few average people grab a camcorder and set out to rescue their friend and document history.Cloverfield was filmed using a handheld camera,so those who don't have an iron stomach beware, however, this style was restricted only to camera movement not picture quality. With the film revolving mainly around its human characters and not the monster, the cast of mostly unknown actors have done an excellent job of carrying this movie by bringing their own unique personalities to the story. While watching the movie there are several instances that evoke a 9/11 feel as buildings fall in the distance and bridges are torn apart. Also,Cloverfield does a good job of portraying how the military would handle an attack like this, and how ordinary citizens would react to something like a big ol' monster barreling down 34th street like a Macy's parade float on steriods. All in all,Cloverfield is a thrilling and spooky adventure not to be missed and it has brought America back into the monster movie spotlight. There is love and loss, believable acting,a unique and powerful monster, and one huge mystery. What is it? Where did it come from? Can we stop it? Let us hope we find out soon.

Couldn't Watch It.
10/10/2008
Simple Summary. If you bought a car and it was a lemon you could take it back for a refund. A shame you can't really do that for bad movies as well. It instantly reminds me of movies like Blair Witch. If I'd known it was filmed to pretend it was real, I would have never bought it. I watched about 30 minutes of it before its weak plot and "artistic" shooting style was just to much. Unless you like this type of movie, don't was your money.

Only an IDIOT would by this on BLUE-Ray
10/8/2008
This was one STUPID movie, I have a 19.99(21.66 with tax)BlockBuster membership with Unlimited DVD's with 5 in-store exchanges. I have only been watching Blue-Ray movies (to get my money's worth)so far. Cloverfield was a waste of my families viewing time - we could not believe the stupid creature and the endings (there were 3 of them).

I now plan on reading all the the Amazon Blue-Ray reviews, BEFORE I rent any more movies.

As soon as BlockBuster deposits $30 in my paypal account(that was there promo for signing up), I plan on canceling.

I give Cloverfield 0 stars ( I wonder if this movie really made by superman's (chris Reeves) son (Matt Reeve)?

A change in modern cinama
10/4/2008
After watching as many movies as I have you see flaws in several movies or story lines done 101 times over. Well I found this movie to be refreshing. We open with a recording from a handy cam that makes me dread watching this being reminded of what a P.O.S. "Blairwitch" was. But I gotta say having this whole movie taped from the point of view of the people involved adds to the thrill. Add a surround sound system and this movie puts the viewer right in the middle of Manhattan being destroyed. There is no Hollywood music to distract you from the idea behind this new age American monster movie.
