Product Description:

Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) is a cool confident teenager who takes a nine-month detour into adulthood when she's faced with an unplanned pregnancy-and sets out to find the perfect parents for her baby. With the help of her charmingly unassuming boyfriend (Michael Cera) supportive dad (J.K Simmons) and no-nonsense stepmom (Allison Janney) Juno sets her sights on an affluent couple (Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman) longing to adopt their first child.System Requirements:Running Time: 92 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY/COMING OF AGE Rating: PG-13 UPC: 024543506874 Manufacturer No: 2250687
Somewhere between the sharp satire of Election and the rich human comedy of You Can Count On Me lies Juno, a sardonic but ultimately compassionate story of a pregnant teenage girl who wants to give her baby up for adoption. Social misfit Juno (Ellen Page, Hard Candy, X-Men: The Last Stand) protects herself with a caustic wit, but when she gets pregnant by her friend Paulie (Michael Cera, Superbad), Juno finds herself unwilling to terminate the pregnancy. When she chooses a couple who place a classified ad looking to adopt, Juno gets drawn further into their lives than she anticipated. But Juno is much more than its plot; the stylized dialogue (by screenwriter Diablo Cody) seems forced at first, but soon creates a richly textured world, greatly aided by superb performances by Page, Cera, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman as the prospective parents, and J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) and Allison Janney as Juno's father and stepmother. Director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking) deftly keeps the movie from slipping into easy, shallow sarcasm or foundering in sentimentality. The result is smarter and funnier than you might expect from the subject matter, and warmer and more touching than you might expect from the cocky attitude. Page's performance is deceptively simple; she never asks the audience to love her, yet she effortlessly carries a movie in which she's in almost every scene. That's star power. --Bret Fetzer

pretty good
7/19/2008
this was a pretty good film. it was enjoyable. it tried to deal with a difficult topic-teenage sexuality and pregnancy. it was not heavy handed. it was good to see someone portray the reality of teens having unprotected sex and good to see Juno's friends and parents support this sweet and innocent girl. the teens were not condemned for their sexuality. it doesn't deal with everything. there is often a huge down-side to teenage sex and pregnancy and many kids do choose abortion with its attendant pain and difficulties. the film does not deal with this. the film makes you think about your own values, experiences and relationships and that is good. it is not a comprehensive exploration but it is a good start. everyone has their own story and this is a good one. similar films which explore sexuality and dysfunctional relationships but are much better and deeper include American Beauty , Election, Rushmore, Harold and Maude and Secretary.

good movie, saw it once in a theatre. Sent this as a gift to granddaughter.

Although I don't think her performance was quite Oscar material, the movie was good and the acting was good, and I would recommend it.

This Film Really Has Character
7/13/2008
As Juno began, I, the cynic, was gearing up to criticize: the opening credits' track approached annoying, the early dialogue was exceeding crass... At movie's end I knew nothing but Juno's smile.

Ellen Page leads this smart and sweet film on its way, as a witty, sixteen-year-old free-spirit who suddenly finds herself pregnant. Juno delighted me with her quirks and intrigued me with an odd maturity; her blunt generosity in the midst of a very adult situation was remarkable, as was her bizarre sense of humor and shameless wit. The rest of the cast, down to the smallest bit role, displayed a keen ability to make themselves both realistic and unique. Juno's budding love for the boy whose child she bears is particularly sweet. And odd.

I heartily recommend Juno. As I mentioned before, there is some crass slang as the movie opens, but the allegedly tinny soundtrack has actually grown on me. The content is mature, as are some of the jokes. But it all weaves together into a truly charming experience. I smiled rather broadly as the credits began.

Juno delivers
7/9/2008
Juno is a phenomenon, there's no doubt about that. And it really does deserve to be, for shining the spotlight on teen pregnancy. However, I really liked- not loved- this movie. The cast is amazing, especially Jennifer Gardner, Ellen Page, and Olivia Thirlby. The movie is pretty funny, but does slow down in parts. All in all, however, it is a solid 4 star movie to watch.

sweet and hilarious
7/8/2008
So much heart and comedy. Juno was a sweet and hilarious surprise. The writing was clever, and Ellen Page's acting was stellar. I loved the whole movie (so many great lines to memorize), and I cried at the end. I didn't realize that this would be one, but it was a feel-good tear-jerker, and those are the best kind. I will probably buy this later. See it!
