That's the only downfall. Otherwise it has great learning capabilities and he has a lot of fun with it. He's already mastered the game that he has so it's time for another! Thank You. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful: What handheld should I get? 3/11/2007 I bought a Dream Sketcher for my 4 year old daughter. She was quickly bored with it. Now she has a Leapster and absolutely loves it. The Leapster is versatile, easy to use and engaging. She is working on learning to read and write and the cartridges available help her to do it. She has taken to applying her learning beyond the game. It has survived a few trips to the floor and works fine. I would recommend this to anyone who has a small child who wishes to have a hand held game. Thank You. Was this review helpful?
Great Toy 3/10/2007 The best "Gameboy-Type" toy we ahve found for our 4yearold, It is educational enough for us and fun enough for him. Great to keep entertained while waiting in a restaurant, at the doctors or while traveling. Thank You. Was this review helpful?

We read all the reviews several years ago and settled on the previous model of LeapSter. They have titles of varying complexity - Spiderman, for example, is age appropriate for K or 1st graders, whereas the Letter Factory is good for kids who don't yet know their alphabet (in our case, early 4s). It uses normal AAs, and long ago, we bought about 30 rechargeable AAs and that's all we use. The content is really well-done. It prompts when it believes the child is lost, and then prompts in more detail. Very well thought-out and tested. We've gone to LeapFrog a few times as part of their kid-testing program. 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful: We love it! 2/16/2007 I bought this for my son's birthday in November of 2006. I had the choice of getting him the leapster or the leapster l-max. I chose this one because the screen was bigger and it had all the same features, plus, I wanted something portable, I mean we have learning games for the computer, so I wouldn't have to move my husband's gamecube and other systems that he has going on (a plus for that). Fromt he moment he received it, he's been addicted, he calls it his gameboy and he doesn't realize he's learning new stuff while he's using it. I love how he gets soooooo excited when he gets a lil star or a congratulations o something. The Leap Frog toys are great, I'll be a Leap Frog mommy for life! Thank You. Was this review helpful?
