Lots of static and poor sound quality

The only reason I did not return this item is because when I travel to more rural areas, it gives me music options other than bluegrass and gospel. It is very difficult to find a clear FM station that doesn't have a lot of static that plays through the tracks on the ipod. You cannot turn the music up very loud either. I would suggest exploring available FM stations in your area before purchasing this.

Macally I Pod dock is the best of the bad

The Macally I Pod dock makes the best of a bad situation. The FM spectrum in New York is completely full and Macally's full spectrum capability allows the user to scan for those few weak channels that may be available. Installation is a breeze and the controls are well located and easy to use. Some static is inevitable and I found that it originated from the other chargers (cell phone, satellite radio, ect.) sharing the cigarette lighter outlets. The only fault with the unit is that the dock compromises volume somehow. Even setting the volume controls on the radio and I Pod at full only produces about 75% available volume. Using my ten year old cassette tape adapter with my I Pod, in my older Ford van, is still king. It provides full volume and static free music. Macally still provides this best, if still flawed, FM dock option.

interesting design, poor performance

It simply did not work well in any of three vehicles I tried it in. Stations that work with other transmitters locally were staticy and could not be tuned away. The design looks neat, and it probably works well with one of the older nano's but my touch and my wifes 5th gen nano seemed very insecure in the dock. Unless I got a bum unit its probably not worth the buy, but it looks neat. I returned the unit to Amazon. The Griffin 4045 seems to work the best of the ones I have tried so far, probably a better bet

Great while it lasted

I bought this item in August 2009 and it was great while it lasted. I liked the ease of use and the fact that it charged the iPod while it played it. Unfortunately, it stopped working in February 2010. I thought it could have been the power cord so I tried a new fuse. The light came on for the power cord but the unit itself wouldn't turn on. So now I guess I will have to find another way to listen to my iPod while driving.

Great Product...Better Than All the Rest

I'm here buying another one of these. I loved my first one. I went on a whim 2 years ago and bought this model instead of the regular small ones that are mainly just corded and plug into your iPod/iTouch. The sound and reception was always perfect. No static...no constant searching for a signal. My husband bought one of the others that I mentioned (the small cords) and he hated it. He is never able to keep a signal and is constantly irritated. A big plus for me is that it charges your iPod too. I never had to take my iPod out of the car, unless I used it while walking. My Macally worked perfectly for 2 years until it died. Can't find it in any of the stores. Amazon's price is the lowest by far and I can't wait for my new one to come in.
