Popular Mechanics (2-year)
Popular Mechanics is a magazine for "low brows."
I was impelled to subscribe to Popular Mechanics because of its low price--3 years for $15. I just received the first issue and even at less than 50 cents a copy, the magazine is far from being a good value. The articles are nearly all superficial. The longer ones, which strive to be informative, are aimed at teen-age or younger readers. Even the ads are crumby. I am always interested in reviews

The New Yorker (2-year)
New Yorker subscription
I wanted to give this magazine subscription as a gift but was unable to order it with a gift card or gift notice. I had to call the recipient to tell him to be on the lookout for the magazine to start in 4 to 6 weeks. It would be nice if you offered a gift option with your magazine subscriptions.

Texas Monthly
Texas Monthly, No - Texas Highways, Yes
I have been a subscriber to Texas Monthly for close to 20 years. With that longevity, one might think this would be a 5-star review; however, that is not the case. As a person who loves Texas, I subscribe to virtually all magazines with the word "Texas" in their name. As a result of its extremely liberal, left-wing bias and trash-talking about Texas, I have many times been very close to cancell

E - The Environmental Magazine
Eh..
I gave this magazine as a gift, and also received a subscription as a gift. I can't tell...is it the packaging? The ho-hum articles? I don't know. I had such high hopes for a great-quality magazine that would increase my environmental awareness and encourage me in my small attempt to live green. Alas, I've been disappointed and I won't renew.

Outdoor Photographer
Besides Beautiful Pictures, Not Much Here.
Well, I'm 5 issues into my subscription, and I have to say that, so far, I'm not very impressed. I really wanted to like this magazine, but I just don't. The photographs contained within its pages are wonderful, breathtaking even. But that's about it. There is usually one article that's semi-helpful, and the rest is just ads, or articles that read like ads, for the latest camera gear or proces

Wild Animal Baby
Not Really A "Board Magazine"
I ordered this magazine for my 2 year old grandson. He is constantly trying to take his big sister's magazines and I thought I had found the perfect solution. The magazine does have "wonderful animal photos, short picture stories and fun activities" like the product description said. However, it is NOT a "board magazine" as claimed. The pages are only as thick as cardstock, a big difference fr

SmartMoney (1-year)
Must Already Have Money for Smart Money
Overall this is a very average financial magazine. I rated it with a two star mainly because many of the articles just did not provide any value to me. That is not to say that others will not find valueable articles. The magazine seems to cater more towards the reader that already has a large sum of money. Unfortunenately, I just do not need articles on why I should chose the BMW6 over the Mer

Harper's Magazine
The Sky is Falling
I used to read Harper's when I was a cynical 20-something. Now that I'm a somewhat less cynical 30-something, I just can't take the nearly hysterical atmosphere of gloom that pervades it. Life is grim for many around the world--always has been, always will. Wallowing in that grimness isn't in anyone's interest. Additionally, Harper's doesn't give voice to alternative political viewpoints--if they

Gourmet (1-year)
Not quite what I expected
Although this magazine has beautiful pictures of food, the recipes are a little over my head. I wanted something a little simpler and not quite so - well, what the magazine is called - GOURMET. This would be good for someone who has a lot of time to cook and appreciates gourmet dishes.

Scientific American Mind
Should be called "Scientific American Brain"
This is less about the "mind" and more about the brain, as far as I'm concerned. There is lots of biological science (some of it questionable) and a lot less psychology. It seems very focused on finding biological causes for emotional or psychological states which I feel is narrow and only half the story.

PC World
Old News
It's not just that you can get your information much quicker nowadays online, well actually it is. Everything in the magazine is automatically two months behind. Out of all the information that is provided none of it is very tech oriented or interesting for that matter. This is an uninteresting magazine not fit for a Dentist's office. You can find better computer information and news in Discov
