The recording device you're looking for.

8/11/2009

I interview people professionally and can't say enough good things about this device. It works on any phone -- iphone, cellphone, old cranker from the 1930s -- and records both sides of the conversation. I've tried various devices from Radio Shack, etc. but this is the one you want. The quality is good enough to use for Podcasts or other professional/quasi-professional applications. I had to do an interview that went out to several million viewers of a popular website and it was flawless -- and that was from an iphone conversation. Buy it.

Works great!

I didn't have high expectations for this device, simply because it seemed that the design would produce only a moderately good recording. But this little thing is amazing! It's very simple to use and recordings are very clear. Two things you should know, though: 1) the recording tends to be relatively quiet; and 2) as others have noted, the cable does seem a bit flimsy. As far as the volume level, I didn't get the large difference between the cell phone part and my own voice that some other reviewers have noted. Maybe they just talk loud, or maybe I speak softly, but while my voice did come across as a bit louder, it wasn't by much. I recorded using my laptop and the free Audacity audio editor, so when the recording was done, I just used the "Amplify" feature and made it louder. Even then, there wasn't much background noise. As far as the cable goes, while it does seem a bit flimsy, remember that this is mono, not stereo. Compare the cable on the TP-7 to one side of an earbud's cable, and there's not much difference. Still, it would be nice if they'd make it a bit more robust.

This is a fabulous little gadget, it works very well (especially for the price), and I would definitely recommend it!

this is great when you want or need to record phone conversations. i use mine to record interviews over the phone & it's been really excellent. it produces much better quality recordings that i thought, and allows you to simply, inexpensively record your phone calls.

Olympus TP-7 Simple and it Works

6/3/2009

It's a simple device that plugs into the mic jack of your recorder and the ear piece is between your ear and telephone headset. Didn't have any issues with recording phone calls, recordings were clear. No need for fancy telephone recording gadgets - this works great with any small voice recorders.

Amazingly simple and works great

5/26/2009

I had my doubts, not realizing how simple this little thing works. I attached it to my Sony ICD-UX71 digital recorder, stuck the earpiece in my ear and then made a phone call. I tested it while on the road in my car using my Palm Treo680 cell phone. It picked up the call from both ends remarkably well. I also got all the sounds from the car, but that may be a function of my Sony recorder, I don't know for sure. Either way, the microphone on this device is sensitive and works very well!

The earpiece felt a little awkward at first, but I soon got used to it and it did not cause discomfort. For those wondering how this ingenious little device works, the other side of the earpiece, the part that goes against the phone when you have it to your ear, is a microphone and picks up the sound from your phone receiver.

when listening to the playback of my recordings, I did NOT notice the caller's voice lower than mine, as another reviewer pointed out. However, you can tell it is a phone call and not a face to face discussion. Altough that could be a function of the phone equipment I was using as well (both from my end and the 2 people I called - both of them were talking to me from an iPhone3G).

I mention the recorder make/model and the cell phone make/models as the recording quality may have a lot to do with these factors.

I wanted this as a solution to use for doing phone interviews for a podcast that I work on. It's a great alternative to Skype and so very convenient!

I'd definitely recommend it.
