Peek, my email solution

10/23/2008

I just got rid of my Audiovox smart phone with T-mobile Flexpay service that I signed up a few months ago when I was in desperate need of a mobile email solution. I thought it was my email solution, but now I found a perfect one - Peek. There is no comparison between the two. It took me half a day and two lengthy calls to T-mobile Customer's Service to eventually set up the email on the smart phone vs. with Peek, I simply typed in my email account user name and password and got registered and received first email in a few minutes! I had to pay $19.99 per month to T-mobile on top of the $29.99 per month for voice calls which I didn't need (I had a contract with VZW already), which was the best deal compared to those with other big carriers, vs. with Peek, $19.99 per month is all I have to pay to get the same unlimited email on the same nationwide network. Besides, emailing experience with the smart phone is less satisfactory compared to the enjoyable experience with my Peek: the tiny, crowded keypads on the smart phone vs. very well designed large keys on Peek dedicated to emailing; the generic and complicated menus with the smart phone vs. the simple menu on Peek very well structured for emailing only. Stop the service with the smart phone was as frustrating as starting the service - my credit card was still billed after I told them to stop the service (they have reimbursed my charges after a few calls - it might be just me being unlucky), and Peek service could be stopped with a call to the customer's care (hopefully, it is true), and could be resumed with a simple registration thru the device at any time. Peek has a lot of other aspects that I love, especially when compared to the smart phone I had: long battery life, slim, pleasant screen displays.... All in all, Peek, being the email only device and service, is my perfect email solution.

Fast and easy setup for email on the go

10/23/2008

My girlfriend uses her Peek with GMail and she loves it. She already has a phone and doesn't need all the extra bells and whistles that most people don't use anyway. The setup is super easy; just put in your email address and password and that's it! It's super slim and stylish and does email in a snap. If you are not techie and want email on the go this is the gizmo for you.

Great reviews for Peek

10/23/2008

I love my Peek. Some very credible people agree:

David Pogue, the technology reviewer for the New York Times writes, "Elegance-appreciators, on the other hand, prefer something that does less, but does it better. Fortunately, this group has been on the rise lately. ... Make way for another elegant one-trick pony: a pocket-size doodad called the Peek, which sends and receives e-mail." (September 10, 2008)

And Katie Boehret of the Wall Street Journal writes, "Peek serves a purpose: It gives those who don't belong to the "I-check-my-email-constantly" club a way to "peek" in on their emails and not feel so unplugged from friends and family. That alone, is reason enough to buy my mom one of these devices." (September 23, 2008)

Peek

10/22/2008

I had the opportunity to intern for Peek earlier this year. Being an engineering major I'm not necessarily in their target market, and I must admit that I was skeptical of the device before I began. E-mail only? They must be crazy!

Once I got a device in my hands, however, I was in love. I've never been a fan of smart phones before; I've had the same Sony Ericsson cell phones for over two years and what I like most about it is it's simplicity. Does it play MP3s? Sure, but I have an iPod because it does that much better. Can it do e-mail? It can, if I pay for an extra data plan each month. But with a tiny screen and without a full keyboard, why would I even want that?

My Peek was a perfect complement to my cell phone as it allowed me to access mobile e-mail in an incredibly simple and effective way. One of the best parts is that there is no contract. If I decide to do an internship internationally, I can either sell my Peek or give it to a friend with no strings attached. With a phone and the inevitable contract that comes with it, I'm stuck paying every month for something I can't even use.

I love this as a gift for mom or dad - its fun, useful and doesn't break the bank even if you're a college student like me. But don't overlook it for your technologically connected friend with an appreciation for simplicity either: I can attest to that!

I love my new Peek!

10/22/2008

I love my new Peek! It is a great solution for those who don't want to sign up with a new cell-phone plan (my plan won't end for another year and a half!) I love the fact that I'm not locked into another contract. This also makes it a good gift... I'm planning on buying one for my mom who swears she is tech-savvy, but really I know if I bought her a Smartphone it would sit in a closet. I think she'll definitely be able to set this up and would love using it. Great product.
