I'm not much of a cell phone person, but I am an emailer, so I was delighted when I first read about the Peek. Within 3 days of reading the review, I owned one, and I haven't regretted it!
At first, the software seemed a little slow and clunky and there were some initial network problems, but once I upgraded to the Peek pronto firmware, things have been near perfect - so perfect that I bought a Peek for my wife.
At just $19.95 a month for service, it's well worth it to be able to get email instantly without a costly cell phone plan (for the record, my cell phone is a pay-as-you-go plan - I don't have the money needed for an overpriced iPhone!).

The Peek also does text messaging at no extra charge, which will surely be a plus for parents wanting to let their kids text but also being able to avoid overage fees!

Today I went to work and forgot to take my Peek with me... I felt so lost all day - couldn't check mail on my breaks or lunch!

it's a sure sign that you're attached to a product when you miss it so badly when it's gone.

The only reason I didn't give the Peek 5 stars is that there are occasional network blips and quirks (sometimes I have to remove the battery briefly to shut it down - frustrating, but relatively infrequent)

I bought this as a substitute for email/sms on my cell phone but, sadly, it's just an email client whose delivery times are horrible. SMS actually requires people to either use an SMS to email gateway, which is clunky at best, or wait for you to send a message which they can then reply to.

If you're an email only user and don't exchange messages via sms with folks, it's a good product, provided you don't need delivery times of less than 15 minutes.

If you rely on email and SMS to communicate with folks in near-real time, this isn't the device for you. I ended up returning mine after about 2 weeks; when they get the kinks sorted out and begin to provide true sms, this will be a great device that I will gladly buy again, but it's not for me at the moment.

Pros:
lightweight
well thought out user interface and keyboard
easy to upgrade with cable purchase from Peek
flat rate unlimited service
battery life is good
good tech support

Cons:
no true sms
delivery times for email are quite unpredictable
Peek neglected to include a usb chip, which necessitates the use of a special cable you have to buy from them (it's cheap though)
uses t-mobile network for network coverage
company infrastructure is not keeping up with service demand

Peek is an excellent product. My only complaint: the small keys. Overall, I'm very satisfied and recommend it as a useful device at a very good price.

Peek can be a life saver!!

The PEEK can be a lifesaving device while traveling. Last year I was in LA during the time of the earthquake, and early in the AM the following day, the hotel emergency alarm was activated. Electricity was off for several minutes, but I was able to make my way out of the hotel safely by pressing the keypad of my PEEK. It actually gave off enough light for several of us to make it down the hallway and out the emergency exit. I will NEVER travel without it. TRULY, a potential lifesaving source of LIGHT.

I recommend this product for everyone.

Thin, stylish, hip, cool looking in grey, aqua, cherry colors with a brushed metal back. Well designed and constructed mobile device. Fits easily in your pocket, purse, or bag. Send and receive email anywhere you go.

This trendy and cool device just really works well for email. It is so easy to use. One of the most user friendly devices I ever purchased.

It has a standard micro-USB jack for charging. You can even use your Kindle 2 charger and cable to charge it no problem. Nice ! Battery life is very good, up to 5 days and nights. Your mileage may vary depending on how much you use your peek.

As reported here, early versions of the peek software were buggy. This has been fixed and many extra features added. You can get the software on your peek updated in two ways. Send it in to peek and they will update it to the latest software which gives it the functionality of the new pronto version for free or purchase a special cable from peek and download and install the update yourself. I like to carry a small, tiny flip phone on a national prepaid carrier that offers unlimited calling for a low price. Tiny, cool phones do not do email so that is why I carry the peek. The peek is simple, easy, fun, and just does email really well ( once you update the software ). It is fantastic at what it does. I purchased two at this great price so I have an extra in case something happens to my original. I signed up for the yearly plan which brings the monthly charge way down.

Peek customer service has been excellent. They are very responsive and helpful. Their Website has a lot of useful information including an excellent user discussion forum that offers loads of help from other "peeksters." Their is detailed information on how to update the peek software on your peek to the latest version.

I highly recommend this device.
