Longevity Issue

2/20/2010

Not So "Reliable".

My wife and I have enjoyed steamy floors for about 2 1/2 years, when suddenly about 2 weeks ago (Jan/2010) the lower housing of the mop cracked and a chunk of it fell free. This is the part that is covered by the cloth triangle, that directs the steam.

Upon investigating I found that the plastic had become so eggshell brittle, I could put my thumb right through it. What the.... !! Well, this is just awful, and there goes my $100 mop, plus $25 in additional floor pads. I'm terribly disappointed. Didn't they consider that the plastic should withstand heat up to 210 degrees Fahrenheit?

I'm going to try and see if I can get from them a replacement lower housing. 5 screws plus re-install the steam vent on the bottom should do it, phillips screwdriver being the only required tool. I hope, otherwise it's back to the mop-bucket.

only one flaw

I have parquet floors in my kitchen and foyer. It's really great to have a product that uses steam to clean. I was very happy with how the floor looked after finishing the mopping. It took quite a while for me to complete the job due to the fact that the cover would not stay on. I finally used three large safety pins to gather the cover at the corners and to keep it in place. Surely the manufacturer will come up with a better design.

Loved the mop, hated the longevity

1/27/2010

I bought this mop in mid-2007 and loved it -- note the past tense.

It did all as advertized, cleaned the floors left no residue, etc.

I paid about $100 at the time, but it seemed like a good deal over time to get the cleanliness which I wanted.

In January 2010, I was using the mop and about halfway through the job, the bottom plate of the triangular head broke catastrophically into about 20 pieces.

I contacted Reliable to let them know about this and to see if they would replace the mop. I told them that I loved the mop. They replied that the mop was out of warranty -- which I knew.

So if you like to spend about $100 to get something that lasts for about 2?? years and then fails catastrophically, go ahead and spend your money.

Like I said, I loved the mop -- WHILE IT LASTED.

Don't be fooled

In theory this is a great idea however the pad that you use to put over the plastic head of the mop gets saturated almost immediately by the steam. You are then simply pushing a dirty wet cloth over the rest of the floor. After 5 or so careful uses of this mop it now leaks and is essentially worthless. Don't waste your money.

Satisfied

I typically don't review products, but I really love this little mop. I have been using it for about 4 months now. We had housekeepers until I went on maternity leave for our second baby. I decided to try one of these out to make my life easier. My housekeepers mopped every week, which was nice but left quite a residue on my floors. We bought this and tried it out a few days after it was mopped. It was amazing how much grime came off of the floors. It took a few moppings to get to a point where I felt we had removed all of the residues from the cleaning products. I did alot of online shopping before purchasing this item, which I got at a local store. I can't say that this one is better than the others in this price range, but for the money I am very satisfied. I thought about the commercial level products, but they are so pricey and I really didn't want to lug a canister around. The purpose of this was to make mopping easier and faster for me. I can't say that it is as good as the commercial variety, but it is certainly better than the littany of mops that we have tried. We have hardwood, softwood, tile and carpets. Our kitchen tile is heavily textured and I feel that this mop does a fine job getting into the crevices, but the reality is that nothing works as well as a scrub brush. I have used it to spot clean carpets. It does fine and gets us by until I can get a rug cleaner in. It really is an easy product to use, gets into the corners great (I like the triangular head), and leaves the floors clean and not sticky. I live in the cold, dry north and was told that I would never be able to generate enough steam in the winter, but so far I don't have any problems. I have a pretty big house and can mop all of my hard flooring surfaces with one tank of water (I think it is about a liter). I know some reviewers said that the mop left pools of water on the floors. I hold the trigger the entire time and while the floor is wet, there aren't pools and it still dries very quickly and it is still less water than you get with a regular mop. I really like this little guy and think it works very well for the price point.
