5 of 6 people found the following review helpful: Blu-Ray 1/7/2008 I bought this product for 299.99, stunning colors and great all around picture quality, even the dvd upscaling makes my non Blu-ray dvd's look great. I haven't tried to play any audio cd' on them but if some of you are having problems go to the sharp website and maybe the software updates may help. The mounting time of the dvds seem slow but I guess thats par for HD or Blu-ray players. I would definitley recommend this produSharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Playerct. Thank You. 12 of 32 people found the following review helpful: Not impressed... 1/2/2008 I just came to Amazon's site to find out what others might be saying about this player. I'm amazed to see all these reasonably good reviews (star ratings) followed up with very blah comments and some folks describing truly bad performance. I give this unit two stars at best. This Blu-Ray player was a gift and I'm hoping it will cut the mustard next to my HD-DVD, I really am. But so far, I'm disappointed with how LONG it takes to respond to basic remote commands (power on/off included) and I'm also less impressed with the picture quality. The remote is quite large and clunky and I hate that it doesn't have a stop memory (have to start at the beginning of the movie each time). My HD-DVD player for the record.. starts up faster, plays exactly the same gorgeous audio/video, is permanently connected to the internet and can get its own updates anytime it needs to and still cost less. 26 of 33 people found the following review helpful: OK for DVDs buy DOES NOT PLAY CDs! 1/1/2008 This is my first Blu-ray player, so I have nothing else to compare it to, but I can see why my local a/v dealer warned me that Blu-ray (and HD DVD) players are still not quite ready for primetime.... I'm tempted to give this product 1 star for deceptive advertising - I have not found an audio CD that will properly play in the BDHP20U. The first couple I tried simply locked the player up requiring a reset; others finally get to a track that won't play, and in the best case a CD will play all the way through, but with little glitches in the sound. Of course I bought this unit to play DVDs, but I thought I also would be able to ditch my old CD player. How can Sharp get away with claiming this unit plays CDs? The first unit I bought stopped repeatedly during DVDs, especially Blu-ray - momentary pauses and then play would resume, but chunks of video would be skipped. This would happen with new, pristine discs, and the latest firmware. I now have a replacement unit, but I can still count on 1 or 2 or 3 slight pauses during a DVD - not a huge deal, but the kind of thing that takes you out of the movie, and then you start wondering when the next pause will be. Despite these issues I am enjoying the beautiful picture I get from the BDHP20U. I'm pleasantly surprised by how amazing some regular DVDs look with the upsampling. But I'm really looking forward to replacing this unit with a future model that works as advertised. Thank You. Was this review helpful?
sharp blu-ray 12/24/2007 Sharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Playerpackaging was excellant. The quality of picture is great. I hooked up via of component. used vivid setting on sony hdtv. When you stop a movie you have to go back to the beginning to find your stopping place. We had to download software to play Netflix DVds. Thank You. Was this review helpful?
