I enjoyed reading this book... moreso at the beginning. Part II is rushed and melodramatic and didn't live up to the complexity and maturity I thought the story captured better in Part I. I wasn't sure what to expect when I decided to buy the book. It was a quick read. It probably wasn't fair that I

Product Description:

The book that started the phenomenon is now available in a deluxe collector's edition! Featuring a ribbon bookmark, cloth cover, ragged edges, new chapter opener designs, and a beautiful protective slipcase, this edition is perfect for fans and collectors alike.

Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.
"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. ''Be very still,'' he whispered, as if I wasn''t already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. " As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he''s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward''s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer''s writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up)

Stephenie Meyer is a fantastic author and this is a great book, along with the other books in this saga. I am hooked and I am a 42 year old Mom of four sons. :o)

The book wasn't bad.

I finally caved in to the hype and bought this book...kinda wished I had placed myself on the month long waiting list at my local library instead.

Perhaps "Twilight" being the first book in the saga's the reason for the slowness. There wasn't really any content/plot. Though the writer took over 300 pages to describe Edward and Bella's "courtship," it still left me with the impression that two infatuated teens blurted out their love for each other w/o thought. It didn't get interesting (for me) until 350 pages in, and the book's only 498 pages long. When it did get interesting, it only lasted for a few chapters before it suddenly cuts off. I don't understand how the writer could go into so much detail with the surroundings and physical closeness of Bella and Edward (in the first 300+ pages), yet she could barely write a couple of pages describing how the only major threat against Bella got resolved with everyone coming out alive. I don't know. The book left me unsatisfied. The dialogue was corny (even the ones between the adults), however the writer describes the setting well. I read a couple of chapters a night. People compared this saga to Harry Potter. I'll have to disagree. Unlike Harry Potter, I was not excited about when I'll be reading the next part of this book.

Basically an OK book, but IMO, does not fit the hype it's received.

Highly Reccommended.

I first read this book to see what all of the hype was about. I wanted to read it before the movie came out, but I wasn't sure if I'd finish it in time because the book is quite long. Actually, I ended up finishing it within a week because I couldn't put the book down. It was easy to get involved with the characters and the plot kept my attention. I'm the type of reader that gets bored with books easily, but this one was great.

The book is supposed to be for young adults (teenagers), but I'm 25 and loved it. Some of the plot points and dialogue were very reminiscent of my own highschool days, but that didn't bother me because the characters were pretty mature. If the characters acted just like typical teenagers in the story, it may have been too immature of a book to keep me reading. However, I could see pieces of myself in each character.

I'd highly reccommend this book to anyone to read, especially to teenage girls and younger women.

Definitely a youth book...but decent enough.

I decided to pick up this series because a few of my friends would not stop ranting and raving about it, and I'm always looking for a good read. While I was not thoroughly disappointed, I certainly can't understand the immense draw that this novel seems to have. The characters seem a bit shallow/vapid. I agree with other reviewers in that both Bella and Edward act way too much like adults--they seem to have few of the teenage flaws that would have made their characters a bit more "human", if you will. Also, this book was VERY slow at the beginning, to the point where I almost began to regret that I bought the whole series at once. Thankfully it picked up a bit when the "bad guys" were introduced, and from then on I couldn't put it down.

All in all, if you're looking for a quick, easy read, especially if you're into the whole vampire thing, Twilight is worth a try...but I wouldn't expect TOO much.
