My laptop now feels like it's 3 generations newer....

the only sad part is that I know I can now NEVER go back to rotating storage... just like you can't go back to dailup after having used DSL for a while.

Excellent performing ssd!!!

I was leary on purchasing an SSD due to mixed reviews...it seems either they are loved or hated. I got to say that the x25m is a must buy for a laptop user! It beats my previous Seagate 200GB 7200.2 in speed (read and write)and not to mention less heat production. After formatting and installing a fresh version of Vista SP1 32bit, I have had no "jerks" in the performance as some have mentioned on other boards and have had no bad occurences yet. I would say just buy this SSD instead of buying a replacement laptop as the old mechanical drives are deffinitely a bottleneck! You have to try it out to appreciate it as it is costly.

A new PC!

This drive rocks! This product will be a definite 'must' for any PC user. There is a immediate benefit in your daily life. Everything is quicker, no heat, what is there not to like?

Once everyone comes up to speed on these they will take off. Here is some homework:

First of all I will say: I don't own this device....YET!

But as a computer & network engineer, I read tech docs all the time and thought I'd throw in my 2c worth, so any newbies out there might know what they are looking at here.

THIS IS THE SSD OF NOW.

Although made with inferior MLC technology (SLC is the one to aim for), Intel has shown the way to all other SSD manufacturers. I don't know of a faster (read performance anyway) SLC device.

The main reason for this leap in performance is the inclusion of a traditional 'cache', which buffers incoming and outgoing data requests, as the computer orders. Other SSD manufacturers don't bother with this feature set....yet.

The other reason is Intel's own proprietary controller.

So, here is hoping that prices will drop soon, and unless you can afford an SLC device, or this one, avoid SSD altogether for now.

Hope that helps somebody out there....(rather than getting burnt with poor MLC investments like myself)
