People who are academically brilliant can be illiterate when it comes to dealing with their emotions. The book was insightful, not to mention a bestseller.

In Social Intelligence, which is a pleasure to listen to since the reader has an easy cadence and warm tone, Goleman explains in detail the biological changes that take place in the brain and the body during social interactions.These condition the manner in which we interact with our parents, children, peers and significant others.

There is a whole chapter devoted to the art of flirting and how and why it is that certain people are attracted to one another and others are not.

A significant other’s body odor can make us segregate oxytocyn, a feel-good hormone, and a hug or kiss from a loved one can raise our energy levels for a while.

Empathy – or the ability to put oneself in another’s shoes – is also addressed profusely.
