Music is an ideal means to express feelings, passions and emotions. It has diversified manners in different regions according to their climate, attitudes and cultures. Historically music is found in every culture but keeps on changing its directions and tones.
Musical instruments are elementary part of any musical invention. They can be defined as a gadget used to create music tones. Technically anything that produces sound is categorized as music instrument even human voice also falls in this group. Their academic studies are termed as Organology.
In ancient times folk music was very popular including North American, Europe, Africa and Asian continents. At that time
acoustic instruments were mostly used. Percussion (drumming) and Strings (violin) are probably considered as oldest instruments. They were basically reshaped in Greek and Roman times. Lyres, harps, flutes, and cymbals were also found in excavation at the Royal Cemetery in Sumerian city. Aeolian Wind Harp, Chrysalis, Due Capi and Cymbalom are also old instruments.
Today’s
musical instruments are available in highly sophisticated and stylish form. They can be classified as percussion instruments, string instruments, wind instruments, and electronic instruments. Some group wise list is as follows:
Percussion: Angklung, Talking Drum, Tambourine, Jew's harp, and Rattle
String: Guitar, Harp, Lyre, Violin, baroque, and Balalaika
Wind: Duct flute, Horn, Organ, baroque, Saxophone, and English horn
Electronic: Theremin, FM & Digital Synthesizers, and Radiodrum
Musical instruments are widely used in all types of music like drum has its own significance in folk music whereas violin and guitar are used in making soft tones. These digital instruments have greatly reduced hours of manual work that many vocalists are suppose to waste in formulating new compositions. At the same time learning these instruments is also rigid. One must has to get proper education and guidelines for their structure and production.
