It is about the size a real, medium size egg. I wish that I had bought more than one, (it would have been cute to have a dozen in a carton) but the price was too expensive. As for durability, the felt "egg" is going to get dirty and I'm not sure if it is washable. I gave a low educational rating because I'm not sure what a child could be learning from this.
