Valentine day is a traditional, historic and romantic public holiday that is celebrated all around the world. Historically this day is associated with St Valentine who was a Roman native and martyred for refusing to leave Christianity and disobeying the emperor orders. In order to strengthen his army and manpower, Emperor Claudius enforced a law to stop marriages and force the men to join his force. St Valentine was a priest and continues his activities of getting young couples married and spread the love all around. One day he was caught by the Emperor and got punished.
Although there are some contradictions in valentine day’s origin, whilst Rome is the place from where this romantic day started. At that time people send flowers to St Valentine and express their unity with him. As he was died on 14 Feb, so this day was devoted for his love, passions and patriotism. With his true emotions and ideology, he becomes the patron saint for all lovers. But with the passage of time, this tradition turns into a real symbol of love, romance and friendship. People used to participate in well organized valentine festivals.
Now days, valentine is a symbol of expressing love and affection to each other. Couples keep on exchanging their feelings, gifts, poems and cards. Especially “
red roses” spread everywhere. Married people, kids, persons who are not in love, persons who are in love and want to say something to someone, everybody celebrates this wonderful day with their own style. Valentine shopping is also very common activity that people love to perform.
